1 Y.O.

It's been almost a year since mesonprojekt has been around. As scheduled, it was back just in time for the first anniversary celebrations on 25 Jan 2009. I remember this time one year ago. I was so excited to have my own site, my blog, my portfolio: me. I recall the feverish anticipation, the excitment. The first steps are so unsure.

I can say with certainty that I have learnt a lot during this one year, in the spheres of both design and functionality. It was during the year that I made the transition from plain XHTML-CSS to PHP-MySQL. I was forced to study the ins-and-outs of PHP and database integration. PHP made life a lot easier: helps me get a lot of info on-the-fly.

As far as visual design is concerned, I am advancing steadily... The new pseudo-grunge look had been playing on my mind for a while, so I decided to give it a try. Still needs a lot of work: grunge takes a lot of skill, and I don't think I'll be able to run before learning to walk first. I must have changed the site logo 3-4 times, I think. Changed the Showcase too. Made that more conventional.

One of the highlights of the year was in late December, when I realised that the site had acquired a pagerank of 2. Earlier it used to be N/A. All the backlinks must have paid off. Put the pagerank widget on the sidebar so I won't miss any future increments.

The blog has changed too. Since I now had a grip over MySQL, I decided to move to my own self-hosted blog, once and for all. So I got myself Wordpress 2.7 and I couldn't have been happier!

Finally, validations: I never consider anything complete till it validates. Finished doing that yesterday. After a lot of suggestions from people, I removed the "Valid XHTML" buttons and replaced them with text links. CSS validated as level 2.1.

Until the next update then... Right now, I got me some unwinding to do. Cheers! And happy birthday to me!
