Trancefixed #2: My Playlist 2Q 2010

Posted: 7 June 2010
I've been listening to some great trance music over the last couple of months. Here are my favorite albums and tracks for the second quarter of 2010. Note that not all of these albums are actually from the second quarter: I just happened to get my hands on them during that period.

In Search Of Sunrise 8%3A South Africa

First on the list, we have In Search Of Sunrise 8: South Africa, which had been released in February 2010. Unlike the last seven releases, which had been mixed by Tiesto himself, ISOS 8 is mixed by Richard Durand, which is by no means a bad thing. This is a diverse album, with a lot of producers I've never heard of before, most from the Black Hole label. If you're a fan of the series, I strongly suggest you get it right away. There are a few average tracks there, but not too bad. Quite a balanced compilation: lot of contrasting styles, with DJs and producers from all over the world.

A State Of Trance 2010

I also enqueued Armin van Buuren's A State Of Trance 2010. I know a lot of people will probably drag me outside and beat the daylights out of me, but I'll come out and say it anyway - I didn't like this one too much. I personally thought ASOT 2009 was average, and after this one, well, I can say I won't be looking at future compilations in this series anytime soon. Hey, I was just being honest, so you can put down your machetes now.

Anjunabeats Worldwide 02

Next was Anjunabeats Worldwide 02, mixed by Super8 & Tab and Mat Zo. I absolutely love everything from Anjunabeats. I have cherished most of their recent releases and found them to be collector's items. This one is absolutely amazing: a must have. Anjunabeats is slowly turning into the the most consistent trance label, with an impressive roster of some of the hottest talents in the world already signed.

Dreamcatcher

And finally, I also got me Nitrous Oxide's debut studio effort, Dreamcatcher. Nitrous Oxide's remixes never disappoint, and his studio debut didn't either. The upcoming producer from Poland brings the same signature high-energy style from his remixes and live sets to the album, so if you like his remixes, go get this one too.

Which brings me to the outstanding tracks. This was by no means hard, as the tracks listed here are just excellent:

From "In Search Of Sunrise 8: South Africa":

  • "Never Alone" by Craving
  • "Ocean Terrace" by Daniel Wanrooy
  • "The Emergency" by BT & Andrew Bayer

From "A State Of Trance 2010":
  • "Savanna" by The Thrillseekers
  • "Ten Minutes To Midnight" by Jer Martin

From "Anjunabeats Worldwide 02":
  • "Irufushi (Adam Nickey Remix)" by Super8 & Tab
  • "Near The End" by Mat Zo
  • "Capture (Mike Koglin Remix)" by Marlo feat. Em
  • "Elf" by Bart Claessen (AW 02)

From "Dreamcatcher":
  • "Mirror's Edge" by Nitrous Oxide
  • "Follow You" by Nitrous Oxide feat. Aneym

Other random singles I liked from albums other than these:
  • "Come Home" by Alpha 9
  • "Lost Angeles" by DJ Eco
  • "Feel (Nitrous Oxide Remix)" by Sundriver
  • "Corrupted" by Signalrunners feat. Julie Thompson
  • "Lights Over Austin" by Tritonal

Until next time...
